Rambling Rants

Since I already banged on about mindfulness last week and how absolutely brilliant and fabulous I am with the technique, I figured I would have nothing to rant about this week for The Lounge. Then, I found myself in a perfectly charming mood for most of the week. I felt like punching anyone who had the misfortune to glance sideways at me. Nice. This was when I wasn't feeling all bloated, blah and sooky sooky la la. Thank you, PM Fucking S. I hate you.

These mood swings persisted for most of the week, until the other day when I was innocently sitting down minding my business, and BAM! It felt like I’d been stabbed. Nope, just period pain. Oh, the joys of being a woman.

Which brings me to another joy of being female. Bra's. I am 42 and I’ve never found a comfortable one yet. I’m beginning to think that using the word bra and comfortable in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

While I am here whinging away, I may as well whine about the weather. It’s COLD. I have to put up with freezing my tits off for at least another 2 months before I can begin whinging that it’s TOO HOT!! Hmph.

What else can I whinge and rant about? Oh yeah, yesterday I had Mr 9’s Parent/Teacher interview. I don’t know what it is about these things that make me feel like I’m a little girl at school again, being chastised by the teacher for reading my  Enid Blyton book under the desk when I was supposed to be working. Not that I ever did that. Nope. No way. Ahem.

The teacher mentioned that Mr 9 often doesn’t complete his homework. Yeah, there’s a reason for that. He sometimes needs my help and I DON’T UNDERSTAND IT. Year 3 Homework. THE SHAME.

Why does homework have to be so freaking complicated? And why is there so quite so much of it? I sent my kids to school instead of home schooling them so I didn't have to deal with this stuff. In fact, I can’t even believe there are people who would seriously consider that as an option. I mean, of course I admire it think it’s sheer insanity, but I couldn’t do it myself.

What's that? I'm a lazy arsed bogan? Well, duh. EXACTLY. I need the freaking teachers to do all that shit for me. It's not like my boys will learn much from me other than Advanced Cake Eating Skills. I've got that covered.
Of course, being such a lazy arsed bogan, I left it until the last minute to come up with this post (so far, it's been worth the wait, right?) then Thursday rolled around and it was time for The Lounge link up and I had nothing prepared, when I woke up feeling all dizzy and nauseous without even having had a single drink the nigh t before! What is with that?
But then, this morning, I had the house to myself, as Micky Blue Eyes had taken the car to be checked for rego and Mr 4 was at my parents house. After dutifully trudging up to the school with Mr 11 and 9, I then came home, happily made myself a coffee and sat down, in glorious silence, thinking I would be able to do some blog posts in peace. Wrong.
The computer DID NOT WORK. I spent hours fucking around unplugging and re-booting it, swearing at it and feeling like throwing it. Now it appears to be working, but who knows how long that will last.

Another thing which had me peeved this week, was when I decided to dye my hair. I  bought one of those new foamy ones. It was super easy to apply. The only problem was, it has a very strong perfume, so naturally, because I am super sensitive to such things, by the time I went to bed later that night I had a pounding headache. Which pisses me off, because it probably means I can’t use it again and it was  so much easier than the other messy, drippy dyes and having to cling wrap my head. Hmph. DOUBLE HMPH, EVEN.
I know. That doesn't make sense, but when do I ever make sense? Plus, I used the word 'rambling' in the title, so that should have been a give away that this post would be a heap of rambling CRAP. You knew you what you were getting yourself into right there, okay? So, I'm not going to apologise for the few minutes of your life you'll never get back after reading this drivel. Oh, alright. SORRY. Better luck next time. I might come up with something readable. Not promising anything, however.

What has you ranting and raving this week?

  1. Haha, I've been having computer related problems this week too as in NO EFFING INTERNET for most of the time - I was actually FORCED to go to the pub for the free wifi on several occasions - scandalous!

I've also got a bottle of hair dye looking at me which I know (despite it being called med brown) will turn my hair red again AND give me a headache.

Not to mention my cake eating skills (which are legendary) being totally defeated by the cake I made yesterday which managed to combine being crispy on the outside with under cooked on the inside and weighed as much as a small pig!

Ummm, yes, well, what I meant to say was - 'I hear you' ...

    1. Ha ha, this is why I stick to the eating of cake and not so much the baking of them. xo

  2. I turn 48 next month and it has only been in the last couple of years that I have been able to put bra and comfort in the same sentence AND MEAN IT !!! K and I went to a specialist undies shop and got fitted. Neither of us were wearing the correct size - get the correct size and hey presto - comfort !!! And you don't even have to buy any from the expensive shop - just get them to fit you and explain how it should feel and then go to Target and buy them from there !!!
All I can say is that PMS sucks and menopause sucks even more - sorry !!!!!
Have the best weekend that you can given how you feel !!!
Love, hugs and positive energy !

    1. Yeah, I have been fitted for a bra before, but I suppose I may have put on rather a lot of weight since then. Ahem.

Am actually quite terrified about menopause, so thanks for the heads up. xo

  3. I wear the sports bras from Kmart. They are awesome. Sometimes I even have to check to make sure I have a bra on, that is how comfortable they are!
I have had hair dye sitting on my kitchen bench for about 3 weeks now, after the Dr told me I should do something about it because apparently I like having grey hair (WTF). Then I stupidly decided to hack at my hair and now I refuse to dye it while it looks so horrible!

    1. That doctor sounds like an utter dick head.

Must remember to check out K-Mart sports bras. Thanks, dude. xo

  4. Eew. What a week. PC probs are the worst. Our email was down for ages at work this week which was good and bad. As for bras, check out DFO for the expensive brand outlets. Most of my bras are super quality at a fraction of the price...

    1. Thanks Robo, I don't get out much, so I don't know why I'm so concerned about bra's, I don't wear them at home, anyway lol

  6. I hear you on the bra front! I just spent a small fortune on two new non maternity bras and by God they are uncomfortable. I could weep from the wasted money.

  7. It sounds like a shit of a week, quite frankly. I think you deserve a massage. Man, how I love massages and it has been MONTHS. Maybe even a year. Far, far too long. Anyway, I digress.

All homework is bullshit, until they get up to high school 10, when they are starting to prepare for Uni. Our school has so much homework it would make you weep, it starts in Prep. Fortunately for my children, I refused to push them or make them do more than I saw fit. Fortunately for them, they were both able to handle the academic expectations. I have seen how unhappy many of the parents and families who just couldn't do it have been - and for what? IT'S SCHOOL! IT SHOULDN'T BE ROCKET SCIENCE! I could have home schooled for Primary, but by year 7 would have been starting to struggle. A friend of mine put their kids in a Steiner school, and though I don't agree with much of what they say (particularly how slow they are at teaching them to read and how anti-tech they are), certainly saved a lot of unhappiness on the homework front. I do think Montessori is a viable option, and would have considered that for mine if there had been any available.

In my not-at-all-humble-and-I-don't-give-a-shit-if-anyone-disagrees-with-me-opinion, the only homework till at least year 7 should be revision. Making sure they understand the concept. And reading. Reading reading and more reading. The amount of children who were struggling with maths and science because they had no reading or comprehension skills was painful to watch. You MUST be able to read - and well - to get through school. Read to them every single day from when they are still babes in arms and make sure they read every single day too. That might sound tiring, but it is so worth it. Based on your own literacy, I would imagine you read anyway :)

But to hell with the endless assignments and Power Points and whatnot. Do it in class. They are children and deserve a life outside of the daily grind. If I get started on what needs to be done about changing the education system you will flinch at the length of this comment :) Maybe I'll blog about it :D

I am pretty good at the homework thing as I was a Teacher Aide in Learning Support for 6 years and needed a good grounding in the Primary curriculum to help children understand it, but I completely understand why people get confused. It is often complex and they do things very differently than they did 20 years ago, but fully expect parents just to know what to do regardless.

Anyway, you are not alone on the homework front, I have heard the same cry in different varieties for the last 11 years. And I hope this is a much better week for you :)

    1. No idea where that 10 came from. Must have hit the keyboard and looked away. Or, possibly, the cat. The wee devil is always rubbing up against and trotting over my laptop :) And meant to say Uni, College, trades or whatever path they will be taking. I am easily distracted by shiny things.

    2. 'All homework is bullshit..' Love that. Yep, agree with reading and revision. I used to do a lot of reading to and with my boys, but I'm ashamed to admit I've dropped off since having a third child. The older two can read quite well by themselves now, but I really need to do more reading with the youngest.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. xo

  8. Alright, maybe I'm going to sound a little different here or maybe even crazy, but here goes. Suffering and pain are good!

If life just went well all the time, we wouldn't know the difference between suffering and pleasure. Christ the man himself said, "Take up your crose and follow me." We've all heard the phrase, "No pain. No gain". We cannot be fully human without going through things. It may sound religious. It may sound philosophical, but it's true.

I try to see my struggels and sufferings as challenges. They're annoying and sometimes down right difficult. Just when I think my life is f-ing shit, some guy in a wheel chair without any legs rolls up to prove to me that my life really isn't that bad. He's even getting through life well.

In your post "A Bogan Reads A Book", I suggested reading my favorite novel, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. There's an interesting debate between painless life and one that's full of suffering. You can read more about it in my long post there.

Rest assured that when you spit in the eye of the venomous snake and you've wrestled with demons deep within you, you will be tougher and better for it. You will find peace and you will know what it means to be a really free human being.

    1. Thanks Ben, I really wasn't sufferint too much there, last week, just being a bit melodramatic as usual. The book sounds interesting, though. And I certainly love the idea of a martini, or any alcohol..

      Thanks for reading.x

  10. I understand that you are using this blog to vent frustrations and be humorous. You're reaching for good writing, and you succeed.

It's just when I hear people complain about their problems and in some cases even their minor annoyances, it worries me.

I fear that we're losing what has made Americans and Australians and others great. We're losing our pioneer spirit. We're losing our ability to hang tough. We're losing our ability to turn pain and suffering into strength and nourishment for the soul.

In Brave New World, the technlogical ones have beome so sheltered; so unwilling to endure any kind of suffering; and so dependent on their technology to avoid discomfort that they are enslaved. Those on the reservation and John, "The Savage" are the ones who can endure hardship and be free as a result of it.

I like classic gin Martini's with Beefeater London dry gin. I like just enough, not too much, to change my mood. I usually enjoy them during celebrations, but they're often good for no reason at all.

Hang tough Ness! You will find unbelievable endurance within you. You will meet the challenge and be funny too.

    Ben
